A stuffy work-related education e-mail list recently had a link to a video on UTube – touted as a reminder to use ”effective educational methods.” I see a lot of these posts and almost passed this one by. But folks on the list seemed to really enjoy it – so I stopped to check it out.
It had me in [...]

Shifting the parental brain

Solvi threw a fit about going to school (daycare) today. Nothing new, she simply prefers things to go her way, and while school is fine and all, she’d rather be playing in the huge cardboard box in her room.
What was new was how I dealt with it. I gave her several warnings, got her socks on with [...]

Aargh… flu….regular not swine…hit the household. Solvi was the first to succumb and recover (almost well now). I was next, and need about 4-5 more days to recover, coughing my lungs up every night has made me exhausted and short of sleep (but WAY less stuff in my lungs.)
Ed has been slowly showing signs of [...]

UT economists released a study today on the economic impact of the University-Knoxville on the TN state economy.
According to this study, because I am employed at UT, 1.8 other persons have a job, and $140,000 of income has been generated for others in the state.
And that doesn’t count the long-term impact of what I DO (support [...]

Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not.
Dr. Seuss, The Lorax
US author & illustrator (1904 – 1991)
In general, this sums up my feelings on the state of the world as of today – the election, the economy, the environment, education, etc!
On the other hand [...]
Happy Birthday – Crash!

Happy Birthday to me! yea!
I have a new Birthday wish – I wish for a new carport attached to the house in front of the garage door.
Of course, this would require removing the OLD carport that I managed to knock half-way down with the car this morning.
I guess I was simply so jazzed on my birthday [...]
Eye update – less pain
Posted in Glass Status Report, tagged health on August 27, 2008 | Leave a Comment »
Ok, so on Friday I got drops and gel to “make it less painful.” Everything went well on Friday and Saturday – went to Foxes, eye was fine after early morning discomfort. WAY less pain upon waking on both nights.
Sunday however, it was crummy in am (as usual) and then proceeded to get worse [...]
My eye is broken

Ok, I went to the eye doctor and he says he thinks I have : Recurrent Corneal Erosion This causes the eye stabbing pain upon waking that I’ve been having at least once per night.
Yuck. We’ll see if the night ointment and routine “viscotears” make it go away, but then it might come back at any [...]
