Below is a dynamic list of the tenets of the Highly Exclusive, Highly Eclectic Church of Duren, or HEHECOD.
This list is mostly for my own benefit. I am pretty sure I have never written down all my principles, beliefs and values all in one place, and thought it might be a good time to do so. If you are inclined, read it over and check back on it as it will change as I have time to add to it – enjoy!
Tenets/Principles/Beliefs:
- I like to believe in a “higher power or powers,” and a life of some sort after death, but if all that happens to us when we die is that we are dead, I am OK with that.
- What is important is what I am doing here and now with THIS life – any further lives will just have to wait for my attention/concern until I get there.
- Increasing the amount of love, and happiness in the world is my goal. I think it should be everyone’s goal, but I’m not pushy about it.
- I should strive every day to be a better person. If I fail in some way today, tomorrow is a new day – don’t dwell, learn from it and try again.
- Higher power(s), if any, are not controlling us, but may be watching us
- … the “good ones” saddened when we fail, and proud when we succeed. Try to make them proud more than you make them sad.
- …the “bad ones” are trying to use us for their own ends, and may be trying to mess with us. I’m not sure what to do about that, exactly, but trust that others are battling them, and do the best I can to make my world a better place.
- …And sometimes non-one is paying attention at all – not everything you do should be for the approval of others, sometimes you do it just because you should.
- Um…more stuff later.
Opinions:
- Churches are wonderful buildings when empty – places I can sit and contemplate the wonderousness of the universe, how much love and self-lessness people aer capable of, etc. When they are full, they are no different than any other uncomfortable social setting with all its expectations and politics. I can get that plenty of other places.
- I believe implicitly in the inherent good in all people – you should have a positive presupposition about all people and their actions. Try to never give up on anyone and *value* everyone. That said, I am of the opinion that the cost-benefit of having certain people on the planet is seriously negative and am NOT sad if they are no longer living.
- Trust me – more opinoins to come.
